Manipulation and mobilisation of the spine and extremities is often a part of patient care although in many cases stabilisation through strapping, bracing and postural correction is a more appropriate course of action. Often described ‘not like other Chiropractors’, Matt has continued to expand his skill set throughout his career to include many treatment approaches rather than trying to apply the same model for every patient.
Time spent in this practice and the development of skills required to perform an expanded role with professional athletes has strongly influenced the way Matt approaches his patients. Private practice from 1993 began in a multidisciplinary clinic (Bayside Physical Therapies) where a close working relationship existed with other practitioners such as physiotherapists and doctors. Positional relief and active exercises are heavily influenced by the knowledge of infant developmental milestones (ontogenesis) and how it relates to children and adults alike. DNS is the gold standard in motor control therapy for injury and postural rehabilitation.
Matt has a qualification in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation ( DNS) from the Prague School of Rehabilitation. A two year Masters in Chiropractic clinical science from Macquarie University and the Sydney College of Chiropractic completed the requirements for professional qualification. If it weren’t for the lure of study and a career change, Matt may have remained a Gold Coast City lifeguard, a role he enjoyed from school age and throughout university studies.Ī Bachelor of Science in Anatomy and Physiology from the University of Queensland was completed in 1990. Aside from the calling to work within physical therapy, one of the attractions to private practice was being able to set up beachside. More about Matt: The beach life was always an attraction. Interview with Martin Dunn, one of Australia’s best and most experienced surf coaches. More at: We are located at 2/1 Douglas Street (actually on Musgrave Street facing the beach at Kirra), Coolangatta. Movement, wellness, community broadly describes what we are about. It’s a great spot comprising much of the lovely feel that Currumbin had with the added bonus of more space and better parking.Ĭo-Habitat is a collaborative space comprising several health modalities. In 2021 we moved to a new beachfront address at Kirra with a collective of health practitioners. It was an amazing place to spend a lot of time for over 20 years as a place to work, to raise a family and be part of a wonderful community. Ironically, it was the same shop where Matt bought his first fibreglass surfboard in the early 1980’s.
The clinic space was previously a surf shop, an art gallery, swimwear shop and real estate among other incarnations. Matt and his wife Robyn started Currumbin Beach Chiropractic in 1997. Diagnostic protocols are key to what treatment an individual patient might respond to. He is more than capable in many technique styles common to Chiropractic, Osteopathy and Physiotherapy.
Rather than focus on any particular style of Chiropractic or manual therapy technique, Matt draws upon decades of work and study to achieve outcomes for his patients with a best practice approach.
